MHS Band is impressive

[On a recent] Saturday afternoon as we were exploring on our golf cart, we heard the sound of drums. Being in close proximity to McIntosh High School, we pulled up to the fence and watched what apparently was a drum and bugle corps practicing for some event, not a football game.

Having been in a full marching band at the University of Tennessee, I was certainly reminiscent of the physical struggles that these youngsters were enduring in the tremendous heat.

Even with all of the undesirable conditions, they were coordinated, disciplined and practiced with incessant fervor.

The flag twirlers, who were very spread out across the entire field, even managed to keep their routines in step with the music. These troopers are to be commended for their dedication and talents.

I am personally looking forward to hearing them at this year’s football games. It has been 15 years since my children were in high school (not McIntosh),but I still enjoy seeing talented, dedicated youngsters succeed by using their gifts.

Older folks (like me) should come out and support these youngsters just like their parents and relatives do. You never know when you might have an opportunity to impart a small piece of wisdom and encouragement to one of them.
