Last Thursday marked the final race in the Thursday Thunder 2006 season and Governor Sonny Perdue was a guest racing Captain Herb Emory at the Papa John’s Fan Appreciation Night and Public Safety Personnel Night.
Fayetteville’s Jonathan Chandler picked up the win in the John Deere Outlaws race and won the division over Trey Maughan, a Fayetteville native residing in Knoxville, Tenn.

Though Chandler was the only champion from Fayette County, local racers did well in the final week of racing. Brooks’ Billy Fulson placed second in the Backyard Burgers Semi-Pro race, while Tina Johnson placed 11th. Peachtree City’s Ed Clark got a third place finish in the John Deere Roadsters race and an eighth place finish in the Tabger Outlet Center’s Masters race. In the McDonough Hospitality and Tourism Chargers race, Tyrone’s Steve Fessler placed sixth, while Brooks residents Amanda Harbin and Leslie Cash placed eighth and ninth respectively. Brooks’ Matt Dooley took 10th in the Atlanta Dental Team Bandits race.

Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Thursday Thunder will return next summer for a full season of racing.
