T. Welton Smith, 75, Newnan, formerly of Fairburn, died July 23, 2006. He was born Feb. 6, 1931 in Fayette County, son of Howard and Estelle Harper Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva M. Smith. He was a member of Fairburn First Baptist Church and served as a deacon. He served on the Fairburn City Council and also with the Fairburn Fire Department. He owned and operated T. W. Smith Insurance Agency. Prior to this, he was retired from the Georgia Highway Express Truck Lines. Services were at the Fairburn First Baptist Church with the Rev. Oscar Cope and the Rev. Dr. Steve Batts officiating. Interment was at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Fairburn. Survivors include a daughter, Judy and Glenn Ratliff, Tyrone; grandchildren, Robyn and Walt Sholar, Atlanta, Trent and Ellen Ratliff, Peachtree City, Shane Ratliff, Tyrone, and Lauren Schuder, Fairburn; and sisters, Mae and Billy Moore, Snellville, Cassie and Roy Farr, Fairburn, and Carol and Billy Willoughby, Fayetteville. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
