It’s simple: Just stand on the Word

Many say they believe the Bible. Many, however, believe the Bible until it hits their particular wall of prejudice or conviction. For example, many believe in the Bible until it comes to their pocketbooks. Then, the words from the Prophet Malachi about giving God 10 percent can be interpreted very loosely and even ignored as binding today.

Many believe in the Bible until it comes to equality for all people. Then, the words of the Apostle Paul to the Galatians are about something else (Galatians 3:28).

And justly so, many people believe the Bible until it comes to Israel. The Jewish state is a very near offspring of Abraham. And it was to Abraham and his offspring that God gave the land presently occupied by Israel and a host of other countries. But it all belongs to Abraham’s children.

The Bible reads in Genesis 15 that God promised a son to Abraham and in that same breath God gave certain land to Abraham and his descendents: “To your descendents I have given this land: from the river of Egypt as far as the great river, the river Euphrates” (Genesis 15: 18). Get a map in hand and look for the Nile River (river of Egypt) and the Euphrates River. That’s a hunk of land.

But then comes selective belief. Regimes around the world are condemning Israel. And not too many of us are standing up for Abraham’s children. It took catastrophic embarrassment before world’s statesmen in 1947 carved out a small portion of land for the Jews. That small piece of land and the much larger land surrounding it already belonged to them.

At least that’s what the Bible indicates. But political correctness seems to outweigh Biblical correctness. Arab oil seems to be a better bargaining tool than the book of Genesis. The Jews should just take what the world gives them and ignore what God gave them.

Truth is always a good point of departure when settling matters. In this case, the truth in the Middle East is a lot simpler matter than all the kings and all the king’s men make it out to be. Stand with God and his word.
