Dancing queens take stage It boasts more productions playing around the world than any other musical, a total of 11 global productions generate over $8 million a week in ticket sales, its been seen by more than 27 million people and over 18,000 people see the show around the world every night: it’s “Mamma Mia!” Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus’ “Mamma Mia!,” the smash hit musical based on the songs of ABBA, returned to The Fox Theatre this week for eight performances only. Presented by Broadway Across America-Atlanta, performances began on July 25 and run through July 30 at The Fox Theatre, located at 660 Peachtree Street NE in Atlanta. Tickets are on sale now. Inspired by the story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs, writer Catherine Johnson’s sunny, funny tale of family and friendship unfolds on a Greek island. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago. Songs including the title track “Mamma Mia,” “The Winner Takes It All,” “Money, Money, Money,” “Take A Chance on Me” and the always loved “Dancing Queen” are all featured in this feel-good night of fun and laughter. With more productions playing simultaneously around the world than any other new musical, “Mamma Mia!” is now the world’s number one show. With a worldwide gross of over $1.4 billion dollars, “Mamma Mia!” is acclaimed by the Associated Press as “quite simply, a phenomenon.” The performance schedule for “Mamma Mia!” at The Fox Theatre is Friday, July 28 at 8 p.m., Saturday, July 29 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday, July 30 at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Tickets for “Mamma Mia!” are $27-$66.
