The Knowles Science Teaching Foundation recently announced that Brian Swanagan has been awarded a Mathematics Teaching Fellowship which began June 1. Swanagan is the son of Jeff and Nancy Swanagan of Fayetteville and a graduate of Fayette County High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 2006 from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is pursuing a mathematics teaching credential at the University of Georgia. Swanagan’s KSTF Fellowship provides support for course work and opportunities to develop as a teacher by participating in national and foundation-sponsored professional development activities. KSTF, located in Moorestown, New Jersey, was established in 1999 by Janet H. and C. Harry Knowles in recognition of the importance of quality science and mathematics instruction to the well-being and future of our country, as well as in appreciation of the many dedicated science and mathematics teachers that helped form their lives. KSTF supports individuals and programs designed to encourage and sustain young scientists and mathematicians as they dedicate their lives to teaching other young people and to becoming leaders in the field of education. The foundation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of high school science and mathematics teaching. For more information on KSTF, visit the Web site at www.kstf.org. login to post comments |
