Huddleston Road/Hwy. 54 intersection closed all weekend

Motorists who travel through the work zone for Ga. Highway 54 West in Peachtree City will likely notice a bit of a change starting today.

The contractor on the project plans to shift traffic to the newly-constructed lanes today. The lane shift will occur between Ga. Highway 74 and Line Creek Drive, officials said.

Also, the intersection of Hwy. 54 and Huddleston Road will be completely closed from tonight at 7 p.m. through 6 a.m. Monday.

Motorists trying to get to a destination on Huddleston Road this weekend should take Hwy. 54 to Ga. Highway 74 south and then turn right onto Paschall Road, which leads to the southern end of Huddleston Road just past the railroad crossing.

Crews will begin removing the old bridge over the CSX railroad tracks Monday since it will no longer be needed. The new bridge is ready to handle traffic, officials said.

Work is still ongoing for the new bridge over Line Creek at the Fayette-Coweta county line. Once the project is complete, there will be two westbound and two eastbound lanes, which is predicted to significantly improve traffic in the area.
