Coweta County Commission Chairman was ousted Tuesday night, in the only locally-contested races.

Tarbutton lost to political newcomer Tim Lasseter, who stressed that he was a life-long Coweta County resident. When the unofficial results were tabulated Tuesday night, Lasseter received 792 votes to Tarbutton’s 705 votes in the western commission district.

The loss means the Coweta County will have two new commissioners in January. Commissioner Larry DeMoss decided not to seek re-election for his District 3 post, so Republican Randolph Collins will face off against Democrat Willie Boyd in November for that post.

Lasseter faces Democrat Jett Smith Jr. in November.

Just over 17 percent of Coweta’s 56,000 voters participated in Tuesday’s primary.
