Locals represent schools well at annual Lineman's Challenge

The annual Lineman’s Challenge was held at Velocity Sports in Peachtree City last Saturday. Athletes from Northgate, East Coweta, Whitewater, Lovejoy and Cross Creek were in attendance and all represented their schools well in the competition.

In the junior varsity division, Blake Green from Northgate took first in the 40 yard dash, ahead of Whitewater’s Chase Duff and Blake Jaurigue. Green also placed first in the three cone drill and the standing broad jump, while placing third in the vertical jump. Andre Harris of Lovejoy placed first in the vertical jump, ahead of Whitewater’s Nick Kaugh, while Jaurigue and Andrew Dean of Whitewater took second and third in the standing broad jump. Jaurigue and Kaugh took second and third in the shutle drill behind teammate Chris Davenport, and Dean and Duff were behind Green in the three cone drill.

In the 185-pound bench press, Cross Creek’s Desharez Woods placed first, with East Coweta’s Brandon McCollum and Chaz Brown in second and third place.

On the varsity side, East Coweta’s Tim McGill took first in the 40 yard dash and the standing broad jump while placing second in the shuttle drill and the three cone drill and taking third in the 225 pound bench press. Taking second and third in the 40 yard dash were Jonathan Jaurigue of Whitewater and Johnny Blankenship of East Coweta. Jaurigue placed first in the shuttle drill and three cone drill, while taking second in the vertical jump and third in the standing broad jump. Blankenship won the vertical jump and took second in the standing broad jump.

Whitewater’s Andy Skiles placed third in the vertical jump and East Coweta’s Joseph Babbplaced third in three cone drill and the shuttle drill.

In the 225-pound bench press, Lovejoy’s Doren Coleman placed first, and East Coweta’s Nathan Baker placed second.
