A Fayetteville man has pled guilty to one felony count of reckless conduct for having sex with another man without disclosing his HIV positive status. Garry Wayne Carriker II, 26, of 205 Pine Trail Road, was sentenced to two years in prison followed by another eight years probation by Fayette Superior Court Judge Johnnie L. Caldwell Jr. According to court documents, the incident occurred between Dec. 12, 2003 and April 30, 2004. Assistant District Attorney Al Dixon said the victim in the case agreed to the plea proposal. HIV, short for human immunodeficiency virus, is the virus that can cause AIDS in some people, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Carriker has also been charged for similar cases involving two other victims in Atlanta. A civil suit has also been filed against him, seeking damages. A 1997 graduate of Fayette County High School, Carriker was a fourth-year medical student at Emory University at the time of his arrest. login to post comments |
