• Air Force Airman Brian J. McConnell Jr. has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
McConnell is the son of Brian McConnell Sr. of Peachtree City, Ga. and a 2005 graduate of McIntosh High School, Peachtree City.

• Air Force Airman Crystal D. Newton has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Newton is the daughter of Christina Leak of Fayetteville, Ga., and niece of Wynonna Allen of Lawton, Okla.

• Midshipman Neal Sebastian of Fayetteville has received a Gold Star at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY, for academic achievement during the second term of 2006.
Sebastian was honored at the annual Academic Awards Ceremony at the Officer’s Club in Melville Hall on April 19.
Gold Stars are awarded to students who achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or better during an academic semester. An “academic star” is equivalent to being named to the dean’s list.

• Christine Reilly, a 2003 graduate of Starr's Mill High School, has been elected as president of the American Marketing Association at Georgia State University. Reilly is currently in Europe participating in the Oxford Summer program with the Georgia Institute of Technology including coursework in Continental Europe. She is also a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Reilly plans to graduate in August 2007 with a business and marketing degree. She is the daughter of Diane and Sam Allen, and Bud and Verlea Reilly of Peachtree City, and the granddaughter of Emil and Lil Yates of McKeesport, Pa.

• Cliff Turner has been named to the dean’s list at Georgia College & State University for the spring semester 2006. To be selected for the dean’s list, a student must earn a minimum 3.2 grade point average on 12 or more hours of work attempted for the semester and have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average. Turner is an upcoming junior at GCSU and the son of Terri Turner.
