Tom L. Dennard, 80, Fayetteville, formerly of East Point, died July 12, 2006. He was born Oct. 17, 1925 in Troup County. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea, having served in the United States Marines. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart for helping to secure the hill as the American flag was raised on the island of Iwo Jima. He was retired as captain of the East Point Fire Department with 33 years of service. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Len Stowe officiating. Interment was at the College Park Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Thomas A. and Laura Dennard, Sharpsburg; a daughter, Peggy Davis, Fayetteville; a brother, Harold Dennard, Canton; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
