Joseph Mason “Poppy Joe” Jones, 87, Fayetteville, died July 13, 2006. He was born May 9, 1919 in Fayette County, son of Frank Whitaker and Palestine Rhett Glass Jones. He was preceded in death by a brother, Spencer Lee Jones. He was been employed at Beadles Pharmacy, Fayetteville, and the American Thread Company. He retired from Delta Air Lines in 1984 with 32 years of service. He was a lifelong member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church, and had served as a deacon. He had also served as a city councilman in Fayetteville. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Buddy Barron officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Hazel Wall Jones; daughters, Mary Joel and Buddy Barron, Flowery Branch, Ga., and Susan and Greg Kennemer, Birmingham, Ala.; grandchildren, Amy Suzette and Kevin Stowers, and Benjamin Joseph and Melissa Barron, all of Oakwood, Ga., Jonathan David and Deanna Barron, Clarksville, Caroline Rose Kennemer, and Samuel Allen Kennemer, Birmingham, Ala.; a great-granddaughter, Breanna Jolee Stowers, Oakwood, Ga.; and a brother, Frank Whitaker and Emma Jones Jr., Morrow. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge. login to post comments |
