Georgia Southern University has awarded Kevin Charles of Peachtree City a $2,000 Karl E. Peace Award for Excellence and Scholarship.

Established in 1996 to recognize potential excellence in academics and character of students, the Karl E. Peace Award for Excellence and Scholarship is offered to outstanding high school graduates who have been accepted as traditional freshmen at Georgia Southern.

Funding for the endowed award comes from the estate of Karl E. Peace, a distinguished alumnus of Georgia Southern College. Peace is currently the Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Cancer Scholar, director of the Center for Biostatistics and professor of biostatistics in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health at Georgia Southern.

Applicants must demonstrate scholarship, positive attitude, ability to overcome hardship, concern for others, integrity and dignity.
