Five men were arrested July 5 in two separate busts on crack cocaine and methamphetamine “ice” charges.

Kelley Lamont, 27, of Augusta, Jarquay Hillsman, 17, of College Park and Mazo Jones, 28, listed as homeless, were charged in the first bust with sale of cocaine and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, according to Fayette Sheriff’s Drug Suppression Task Force Commander Mike Pruitt. Seized in the bust was one-quarter ounce of suspected crack cocaine.

The buy-bust occurred shortly after 5 PM near the Taco Bell on Ga. Highway 85 in Fayetteville after undercover agents met with the three men and negotiated the sale of crack cocaine. The bust occurred after the transaction was made, Pruitt said.

Also charged July 5 were John Carl Burks, 44, of 140 River Frost Drive, Fayetteville, on charges of sale of methamphetamine and Duane Edward Smith, 37, of 360 Greenview Boulevard, Fairburn, for being a party to the criminal sale of methamphetamine, Pruitt said.

The bust involving one-quarter ounce of “ice” occurred at 9 PM at Ga. Highway 92 and Rivers Road. Pruitt said different undercover agents met to negotiate the sale prior to those arrests being made.

These busts are examples of the continuing effort by task force undercover agents to take dangerous drugs off the streets of Fayette County, said Pruitt. Whether in quantities large or small, drugs are present in Fayette County and we intend to continue to make arrests to eliminate them, he said.
