Special Agent in Charge Gregory Jones, FBI Atlanta, in conjuction with Chief Richard J. Pennington, Atlanta Police Department, provided the following information:

On July 4, 2006, at approximately 1:30 p.m., officials at the On Site Fueling Company, Atlanta Industrial Boulevard, Atlanta, Georgia, notified the Atlanta Police Department of the theft of two fuel tanker trucks which disappeared from their lot earlier that day.

Given the nature of the theft, the Atlanta Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) was called into the investigation.

At approximately midnight July 4, both tanker trucks were recovered abandoned at a shopping center on Camp Creek Parkway, Fulton County, Georgia, after a 911 call came in from an individual who had seen news reports of the trucks and had, in turn, seen them in the shopping center.

This joint investigation with the Atlanta JTTF and Atlanta PD has developed several persons of interest in this theft and, while there does not appear to be any connection to terrorism, this matter remains an ongoing investigation.

Lastly, the Atlanta JTTF would like to thank the trucking industry for its vigilance in not only notifying the appropriate authorities in this matter but in its constant vigilance against potential terrorism related incidents.

Any information regarding this matter should be directed to the Atlanta office FBI at tel. (404) 679-9000 or the Atlanta Police Department.
