Peachtree City officials are getting closer to demolishing a home at 611 Golf View Drive that was damaged by fire and has been abandoned by the property owner.

The city has had a contractor evaluate the home to determine if any of the components contain asbestos, which would require being delivered to a special landfill, said city Building Official Tom Carty.

Once that report is available, it will be provided to the two companies interested in bidding on the demolition project, Carty said.

The City Council must still approve the demolition before the project could begin, Carty noted.
