08/22/2006 - 7:00pm 08/22/2006 - 8:30pm The Crohn's & Colitis (IBD) Support Group will be meeting the 4th Tuesday of August, August 22nd, from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Our special speaker at that meeting will be Dr. Dennis E. Choat of Georgia Colon & Rectal Surgical Associates. Dr. Choat is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham. He completed his surgical internship and general surgical residency at Atlanta Medical Center (formerly Georgia Baptist Medical Center), and also completed his fellowship in colon & rectal surgery at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans. A resident of Peachtree City, Dr. Choat has been in practice since 1998, and see patients at offices in Fayetteville and Atlanta. Dr. Choat will be sharing information with the group concerning surgical techniques and procedures performed in the treatment of Crohn's & colitis (IBD). As part of the management of what is a very complex chronic disease, surgical therapy is part of the continuum of care for IBD patients. Knowing what options are available before the need for surgery arises empowers patients to make more informed, knowledgeable decisions. Many colon and rectal surgeries can be performed laparoscopically, and Dr. Choat has extensive experience with this surgical technique as well. Dr. Choat will also host a question and answer time for patients and their families at the meeting. The Crohn's & Colitis (IBD) Support Group meets monthly (except December) on the 4th Tuesday of each month, in association with the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (www.ccfa.org). Meetings are held at Piedmont Fayette Hospital's 1279 Medical Building, 1279 Highway 54 West, 3rd floor conference room B. The meetings are of an educational, informational, and support type nature. People with Crohn's or colitis (IBD), their families, and their friends are encouraged and welcome to attend.
