Liquor vote set for Tuesday

A Sunday champagne brunch could be just around the corner for Senoia residents.

Residents head to the polls Tuesday to pick a new mayor, along with three city councilmen. Also on the ballot is a proposal that would allow Sunday liquor sales by the drink.

Last November, citizens overwhelmingly approved a referendum that allows liquor by the drink sales in the city. In that election, 548 residents supported selling liquor by the drink, while 349 voted against it.

By late summer, the city had finally approved an ordinance governing the regulation of liquor sales, but realized a separate vote would have to occur for Sunday sales.

If approved, Senoia would be one of the few municipalities to allow Sunday sales. There are no Sunday sales in Coweta, and only Peachtree City allows Sunday sales in neighboring Fayette County.

No restaurants in Senoia have applied for a regular liquor license yet.
