Maxwell, Chapman like 2 hungry wolves in henhouse

I am concerned about the pair of candidates running for the County Commission. In so many places there are Chapman and Maxwell signs it makes me wonder if they share the same platform.

After looking over Chapman’s campaign literature, it is obvious that he is ignoring the major issue facing Fayette County today; that is zoning.

Given the fact that he has ties to the real estate business through mortgage banking, I fear that he will open the flood gates to development. This county certainly doesn’t need that kind of growth, growth that brings many incumbent pains, ranging from increased taxes to support new school construction to water rationing in times of drought.

Mr. Chapman is running an expensive campaign followed closely by Mr. Maxwell’s spending. I wonder just how much money has been contributed by the high-development interests. These people are licking their chops over this year’s election.

With at least one development supporter already on the board (Horgan), developers have the chance to gain a majority this time. Then you will have another Cherokee County on your hands because developers unrestrained will go through what little land is left. Forget the AR zoning. Let’s have R30 and R40 or worse.

Though with quite a few faults, the present commissioners have done well in keeping the lid on growth. Personally, I will support only those candidates who have a record of supporting slow growth, or who are strongly in favor of slow growth.

As for the development issue, electing the aforementioned candidates to the commission will be like electing two hungry wolves to guard the hen house. Please be aware on election day.
