Peachtree City middle school students will have a fun after-school option starting in the fall instead of going home alone.

Teen Activities at Glenloch, TAG for short, is aimed at students particularly at Booth Middle School, which is within walking distance of the Glenloch recreation center. The program will include indoor and outdoor activities from outdoor sports to video games; there will even be time set aside for homework.

The City Council has approved spending $3,500 to get the program started with equipment including a foosball table, a ping pong table, art supplies and furniture. The recreation department is working on getting a video game, TV and stereo donated to the program.

TAG will serve up to 35 students each day. There will be a cost for participants of $50 a month, or $20 for one set day of the week over a month’s time. That cost will help offset the additional part-time staffer needed for the program, which will be supervised by at least two adults, officials indicated.

City students who go to Rising Starr may also be able to participate, but that depends on whether the county school board can provide transportation. Students will be picked up from Booth and supervised as they walk to the Glenloch recreation center, officials said.
