Georgia Rotary student says goodbyeMon, 07/03/2006 - 1:48pm
By: The Citizen
Roger Menta is a Georgia Rotary Student Program (GRSP) scholarship recipient from Brazil, sponsored by the Peachtree City Rotary Club.
At a recent luncheon Menta gave a heart felt farewell presentation to Rotary Club members about his experiences while attending Georgia State University this past year. Since 1946, Rotarians in Georgia have promoted world peace through understanding and offering scholarships to international students for one year of study in Georgia colleges and universities. Georgia Rotary Clubs sponsor students recommended to them by a Rotary Club in the student’s country. The students become adopted members of a Georgia “host family” but live on-campus while at the school they attend. The GRSP is a scholarship program not an exchange program. Each year about 80 students from all over the world make friends in the United States and other nations and learn about differing cultures and lifestyles. Georgia Rotarians believe that “Peace is Possible” and that with the GRSP international goodwill can be promoted through the bonds of friendship and understanding. login to post comments |
