The Starr's Mill High School Choral Boosters presented two graduating seniors from SMHS with scholarships totaling $4,400 at their recent Spring Concert. These scholarships will be used to help the students continue their study of music in college. Rikki Purdy has participated in chorus since the 4th grade and has studied piano for over 11 years. She is an accompanist and assistant conductor for the Women's Ensemble Chorus, sings with the Jazz Chorus and is also a member of the select Chanticleer Chorus where she serves as Librarian and Alto II Section Leader. Recently, Purdy won the Music Educators National Association's Piano Composition competition for the Southeastern region and was invited to perform at their National Convention in Salt Lake City. She is also the reigning Miss Starr's Mill High School. She will begin her college courses in piano composition at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah in June. Rikki is the daughter of Rodger and Denise Purdy. Laura Val Dietmeyer has participated in several choirs since elementary school and was selected for All State Chorus for six years. Beyond being an accomplished cellist, she is actively involved in the school's Jazz Chorus and the select Chanticleer Chorus, serving as the Secretary, Soprano I Section Leader and Student Conductor. She was recently honored as Choral Student of the Year. Dietmeyer will be studying vocal performance and music education at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.
