U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) recently announced that two local students whom he had nominated to the United States military academies have now received appointments to the prestigious schools and U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) announced that four local students he had nominated received appointments.

Alex Larson, a graduate of McIntosh High School in Peachtree City, has been accepted to the U.S. Air Force Academy. Thomas Lucak, also a graduate of McIntosh High School in Peachtree City, has been accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy. James Tomlin of Tyrone is a graduate of Sandy Creek High School and will begin his studies at the United States Air Force Academy this summer. Mark Ackman of Peachtree City is a graduate of McIntosh High School and will begin his studies at the United States Military Academy at West Point this summer. Christopher Rice of Peachtree City is a graduate of McIntosh High School and will begin his studies at the United States Military Academy at West Point this summer as well.

“Only the best and brightest students from across the country are selected for the honor of attending one of our outstanding military academies,” said Isakson. “I am delighted to have been able to nominate these promising young leaders who will make Georgia and America proud.”

“It is an honor to announce these students’ acceptance to the U.S. Service Academies,” Chambliss said. “Fayette County should be proud. These are all very bright young people who have all demonstrated academic achievement in high school, leadership potential, physical fitness, and personal motivation.”

The annual nomination of young people to our nation’s military academies is the responsibility of each member of Congress. Those nominees who are accepted into the academies are each awarded full four-year scholarships, valued at $300,000 each, and include tuition, books, board, medical and dental care.
