Having an interest in local government does not make one a qualified candidate. I’m the best choice for City Council because of my experience, personal skills, and community involvement. The issues you care about are the same ones that concern me.

A few years ago, like many of you, I questioned why things had become so dysfunctional in our city government. Where did the “big boxes” come from? How could an expensive survey state traffic at Wal-Mart would be okay!? Why wouldn’t City Council allow John Wieland to present a potentially beneficial, non-binding annexation proposal? How could the West Village be developed without adequate roads? Did I really want to read diatribes in the newspaper? Were my concerns being effectively represented? I decided I could make a difference. I supplemented my business and legal experience by taking on new and different leadership positions, to include Recreation Commissioner. This broad background has prepared me to tackle our issues.

Over the next 4 years, these challenges will require a diligent approach. Our tax bill has increased year after year. I won’t guarantee tax cuts in order to get your vote. Instead, I suggest fiscal creativity and conservatism. Another issue on the forefront is re-development. Our plan must be comprehensive to protect our entire community. The council must also solve traffic problems, re-build relationships, restore our infrastructure, enhance our recreation, and plan for the future.

Like you, I’m terrified of pulling out off Rockaway Road. I endure the daily PTC traffic jams. As a 10 year season ticket holder, I hear the complaints about our Amphitheatre. We face some difficult obstacles, but let’s not lose sight of our strengths. I take great pride in being involved in everyday Peachtree City life. We enjoy the community activities that bring us together, such as the July 4th parade and fireworks, festivals, and various sporting events. Being an integral part of the community is essential for a representative. Simply attending council meetings twice a month will not get the job done. Peachtree City needs a representative that is present.

These essays have provided a small view of the candidates’ philosophies and backgrounds. For a more extensive discussion, please visit my website at www.cyndiplunkett.com.

Let us work together to make Peachtree City better. November 8th affords every citizen the chance to set the course for our city’s future. Your vote will allow me to represent you!
