In the last essay my opponent stated that the city is in excellent financial shape and has the highest bond rating in the city’s history. But an increase in taxes of 25% during his tenure should amount to something. We need to freeze taxes and repeal or lower overly high or unneeded taxes. We need budgetary reviews and force accountability of how the dollars are being spent: tie in citizens’ objectives and include citizens’ approval. In doing so, we need to align Master Planning to validate future objectives to avoid deteriorating business areas such as the industrial park. I totally support new business development and expansion in the city. This develop will certainly add the necessary revenue to the cities tax base and assist with tax reductions on private citizens.

We need to re-energize the Development Authority to stimulate new businesses and facilitate their coordination with the Fayette County Development Authority. The DAPC has been a fantastic force in bringing Peachtree City not only some of our major businesses and their employees but also the cultural influences which followed. I would also support divestiture of the DAPC from the Tennis Center. This activity should be sold off to a private concern that can run it efficiently.

I also support the West Village Annexation. Peachtree City is faced with one undeniable fact: the West Village tract will be developed. We must progressively manage and develop the appropriate infrastructure to support this undertaking. The decision we face is how to best govern that development for the benefit of Peachtree City. We must first bring all involved parties into the decision-making process, starting with the citizens of Peachtree City. Additionally, we must have input from not only John Wieland but the County Commission, Tyrone, Georgia State DOT, CSX Railroad, the Atlanta Regional Commission as well as impacted landowners. Furthermore, the Peachtree City government should be allowed to use whatever internal resources we have to ensure this annexation is carried out to the highest standards and with greatest regard for what is best for our community.

With my extensive background in business as well as the military, I can provide the ethical leadership and hands-on work required on the city council. I ask you to join with me for a Peachtree City that enables and empowers all its citizens to achieve the promise our future holds. Please vote Steve Boone, on November 8th.
