The Metro Fayette Kiwanis is holding a political forum on Thursday, June 29. The forum is open to qualified candidates for the county commission seats and will be at the Sams Auditorium, Fayetteville, at 7 p.m. The format will be governed by a moderator and timekeeper and Comcast will be recording the event.

The July 18 Republican primary features incumbent Greg Dunn going for his third four-year term. His opponent is Fayetteville attorney Eric Maxwell. The second race has incumbent Linda Wells being challenged by banker Sam Chapman and accountant Jack Smith.

At the forum’s beginning, the moderator will explain the rules: opening remarks are two minutes each; then two rounds of questions will be asked by a panel, one per candidate with two minutes allowed for each response.

If time permits, a third round of questions will be asked by the panel. The next round consists of each candidate asking a question and a follow-up questions to the candidate of his or her choice, with two minutes allowed for each response. Closing remarks will be two minutes each.

“Metro Kiwanis has a strong community outreach,” said President Lana Carr. “And we believe that the forum contributes to the quality of the electoral process by allowing the public to know the candidates and their platforms.”

Sams Auditorium is in the old Fayette County High School building, a complex now known as the LaFayette Center.
