The Rev. Sally Oakes, former pastor of Flowery Branch United Methodist Church near Gainesville, will assume duties as pastor of Bethany UMC this Sunday, June 25. Oakes’ hobby is classical vocal music and she sings on a volunteer basis with a professional choir. Her husband, Tom, is a jeweler in Buckhead. They have two daughters, Miriam, who will be a senior in high school and plans to major in piano in college, and Lillian, a rising fourth grader who is interested in sports and piano. The Oakes family is expected to move to the Bethany community June 22.
