Health Dept. out of flu shotsTue, 11/01/2005 - 7:15pm

The Fayette County Health Department is out of flu vaccine for adults, but they do have some doses left for children under 3 years old, officials said Tuesday morning. That means the hunt will be on for places offering the vaccine, and that will include private physicians as well as some local pharmacies and grocery stores. The health department ran out of the vaccine Monday, and more than 3,500 persons were vaccinated there, said Nursing Supervisor Peggy Berry. She recommends anyone still wanting a flu vaccine to check with their doctor’s office to see if they have any available. Berry said the vaccine for kids under 3 is also very important and the health department would like to see those vaccines used as well. “Babies are really at risk,” Berry said. “We’d really like to see them come in and get these vaccines.” The difference between the vaccine for adults and the vaccine for those under 3 years old is the dosage amount, Berry added. The vaccine available is for “regular” flu, not the bird flu strain now in the news. Others providing flu shots available to the public include: • Peachtree Immediate Care on Ga. Highway 54 near Piedmont Fayette Hospital; doses are $25 and are offered seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on a walk-in basis. • Publix grocery store at the Summit Point shopping center in south Fayetteville; doses are $25 and will be administered today (Wednesday) between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on a walk-in basis; doses will also be administered Tuesday, Nov. 8 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. for walk-in customers. • Publix grocery store at the Peachtree East shopping center Monday, Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; doses are $25 and will be administered on a walk-in basis. • Publix grocery store at Wilshire Pavilion in Peachtree City on Thursday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; doses are $25 and will be administered on a walk-in basis. • Public grocery store at Southhampton Village in Tyrone on Monday, Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; doses are $25 and will be administered on a walk-in basis. • CVS Pharmacy in Fayetteville on Ga.
