Fayette voters wanting to avoid lines at the polls Tuesday have their chance this week during the early voting period that ends Friday at 5 p.m.

Any registered voter may file their ballot at the office of the Fayette County Board of Elections at the county’s Stonewall complex in Fayetteville between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. No early voting will be allowed on Monday due to a new state law, according to Fayette’s top elections official, Margaret Malone.

Also, a federal court ruling has overturned a new Georgia law that would have required voters to produce a photo ID to vote. Instead the state is following the previous list of valid identifications voters can provide, Malone said.

In addition to traditional IDs such as a driver’s license or state ID card, other valid IDs on the list include a Social Security card, a current utility bill, a bank statement, a government check or certified copies of a birth certificate, an adoption, a name change or naturalization.

A person without any of the accepted forms of identification will be allowed to vote if they fill out a separate form swearing they are the person identified on the voter’s certificate they completed, Malone noted.

Although those who qualify for absentee ballots can also vote on a machine in the office, they will not be allowed to do so Monday, the day before the election.

By late Monday afternoon, 88 ballots had been cast in the Peachtree City election and 11 each were cast for the Fayetteville and Tyrone elections. No votes had been recorded for the Woolsey election.

There are no races involving the unincorporated parts of the county.

Polls will be open for election day Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters in the Woolsey election will report to a new precinct this year: the town hall located on Hill Street, Malone said.

Other polling places include:

• North Fayetteville, at the LaFayette Educational Center, 205 LaFayette Drive, Fayetteville;
