Margaret Vail was a long-time contributor to her community, until her death last October. She was active in the Metro Fayette Kiwanis, in the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, and the Fayette County Republican Party.

To honor her place in the community, the Metro Fayette Kiwanis began a scholarship in her name to the two high schools who have an active Key Club.

Metro Fayette sponsors a Key Club at Sandy Creek High School and Whitewater High School. Whitewater will have its first senior graduation in May, 2007.

The first Margaret Vail Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Sandy Creek senior, Lauren Burkhart. She has served as the treasurer of the Key Club at Sandy Creek and will be attending Georgia Tech this fall.

“We are pleased to be able to help Lauren as she pursues further education,” said Metro Fayette Kiwanis president, Lana Carr. “Everyone loved Margaret and it is an honor and privilege to keep her name alive in this manner.”

The Metro Fayette Kiwanis meets each Tuesday noon at the IHOP in Fayetteville.
