Board of Education member Mike Sumner made it official Tuesday night with the announcement that he will seek a fourth term.
“There are just some things in progress that I like to follow through,’ he side.
Sumner pointed to the ongoing construction of the three ninth grade campuses next to the county’s high schools and also said a unique opportunity may present itself next to the county’s much-lauded Centre for the Performing Arts.
“There’s a possibility that Central Education Center could open a satellite campus next to the arts center and provide a arts magnet school for the county,’ he said.
Even though the school system has been getting a lot fewer dollars from the state, Sumner is proud the board has been able to work on reducing class size at the elementary level. Sumner is one of the board’s two at-large candidates and represents the entire county.
“This wasn’t an easy decision to make, since I know how much campaigning is required, but it’s worth it.”
