While Idol mania is sweeping the country, the organizers at the Villages Amphitheater in Fayetteville are busy planning the third annual local competition that has grown in popularity throughout the county.

This year’s Fayette Idol contest will take place on Friday, July 7. Applications are available now and will be accepted until June 30. They can be picked up at the Fayetteville Train Depot or you may print your own from the city web site, www.fayetteville-ga.gov under “Events.” Applicants must be a resident of Fayette County.

The application fee is $10 and checks may be made to Main Street Tourism Association. There will be two categories to compete in this year; ages 5-12 years and 13 years-adult. The two category winners will each take home a cash prize of $200 as well as other prizes donated by local merchants. They will also be asked to sing their winning song as an opener for one of the summer concert series shows, as well as being invited to perform at various city-sponsored events throughout the year.
