Fayette-Starr’s Mill DAR chapter adds membership

The Fayette Starr’s Mill Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is just over one and a half years old, and is growing quickly.

“Our chapter grew 40 percent last year,” said publicity chair Judy Hughes. “We know there are a number of wonderful women in Fayette County who are interested in the DAR, and we look forward to working with them.”

Among the accomplishments of the group is the presentation of books to local schools on the subject of the Constitution, in recognition of Constitution Week.

The group won a “Special Award” in the Southeastern division for a chapter under 51 members for its outstanding Constitution Week activities. It was notified that it was “one of 3 chapters who have taken the Constitution Week celebration well beyond the description given by the National Committee, and for using local talent and access to tell the DAR story to the greatest number of people in their area.”

At its State Conference if took first place for Chapter Achievement in the category, Largest Membership Increase.

The ladies meet in various homes in Fayette County on the second Monday at 7 p.m.
