Digging through career optionsWed, 06/14/2006 - 4:19pm
By: The Citizen
Students enjoyed experiencing future career options while attending the Prime Time Career Centers at Sara Harp Minter Elementary. Mrs. Thomason, counselor, sponsored the week long event in which students from 2nd-5th grade were able to experiment hands on at individual centers such as: Science Channel Archeologist Center and Astronomy Center, Discovery Health Medical Center, Extreme Engineering Civil Engineer Center, Extreme Home Makeover Architect Center, Trading Spaces Interior Design Center, What Not to Wear Fashion Design Center, Jewelry Channel Jewelry Design Center, Animal Planet Veterinarian/Zoologist Center, You've Got Mail Postal Center, Business Channel Banker Center and Landscape Solutions Landscape Design Center. Students were able to role play using career props that fit each career. They learned job descriptions, education requirements, job duties, etc. Pictured at the Science Channel Archeologist Center digging for dinosaur bones at the "archeological dig" is Mrs. Thomason, counselor, Anna Farrington and Andrea Thacker, 4th grade students.
