FAYETTEVILLE CITY COUNCIL APPROVES PARADE ROUTES AND FEES

The Fayetteville City Council approved Chapter 74 Article V of the city’s Code of Ordinances which sets forth the adoption of new parade routes and fees at its regular meeting last week.

Fayetteville Police Chief Steven Heaton brought the request due to the number of requests for parades and other events which increases the services needed from the police department.

Part (c), of Section 74-135 reads the parade leader shall not allow participants in the parade to throw any objects (to include candy) towards observers of the event.

Councilman Paul Oddo asked Heaton if those walking along the parade route could hand out candy and he received assurance that would be all right.

Eldridge Gunn, director of planning and zoning, announced that public hearings on a rezoning request from Jerry Peterson and a rezoning request from Asa Candler were requested to be tabled so that plans could be adjusted.

A proposed ordinance to rezone 7.11 acres on Brandywine Blvd. extension and Ga. Hwy. 54, to be changed from C-3 Highway Commercial to O&I Office &Institutional, was approved, as was well as an amendment to the city of Fayetteville Zoning Ordinance allowing a Medical Office Zoning District.

A bid award allowing the purchase of a new control system improvements to the Fayetteville Waste Water Treatment Facility was accepted. The low bid was $80,771 and was awarded to Control Instruments Inc.

An intergovernmental agreement between the city of Fayetteville and Fayette County for the construction and maintenance of the Redwine multi-use path was finally approved after many months of discussion. The city will be contributing $125,000 from its SPLOST funds, which was included in the 2006 amended budget.
