City’s Memorial Day celebration is a huge success

It was a Memorial Day for the ages.

Nearly 3,000 residents and visitors spent the day in Senoia Monday and celebrated the sacrifices made by America’s heroes.

The day kicked off with a festive parade that wound its way up Main Street and featured floats from area churches, veterans in jeeps and Sons of the Confederate Veterans.

The city was decked out in red, white and blue and street vendors sold everything from fried pies to colorful arts and crafts offerings. After the parade, a brief ceremony was held and featured a stirring speech from Ret. Lt. Col. Jim Steinbach. Shortly after his speech, members of the Dixie Wing did a ceremonial fly-over in the missing man formation.

After the ceremony, residents wandered through the vendor area and also took their children on pony rides.

City officials also said nearly 1,500 attended the fireworks display on Howard Road Monday night.
