The spring 2006 Georgia High School Graduation Test results show an increase in the percent of students scoring in the “pass plus” category for all subjects tested.

According to the Spring 2006 score reports for all 11th grade first time test takers, three percent more students tested in the “pass plus” category for both English/Language Arts and Mathematics compared to the 2006 results. Likewise, four percent more students scored a “pass plus” in Social Studies. Science had the great gains with an increase of seven percent.

The “pass plus” category means that students tested above the standard for that particular subject. The majority of Fayette’s students test at the “pass plus” level. This year’s scores are 84 percent for English/Language Arts, 77 percent for Mathematics, 67 percent for Social Studies and 41 percent for Science.

Slight gains were also made in the total number of passing students for both Social Studies and Science, each up one percent with percentages of 95 and 87, respectively. The pass rate for English/Language Arts remained the same at 99 percent while Mathematics had a one percent decrease from last year with a 97 percent pass rate.

In comparison to state results, Fayette’s students scored significantly higher in the “pass plus” category by 11 percent in English/Language Arts, 19 percent in Mathematics, 23 percent in Social Studies and 18 percent in Science. The county also scored higher percentages with total passing students ranging from three to 15 percent according to the subject.
