Air Force Junior ROTC (AFJROTC) Headquarters at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama has selected GA-20024 at Sandy Creek High to receive the 2005-2006 AFJROTC Distinguished Unit Award. This award recognizes AFJROTC units that have performed above and beyond normal expectations and that have distinguished themselves through outstanding service to their school and community while meeting the AFJROTC mission of producing better citizens for America.

The objectives of the Junior ROTC program are to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship and life skills, promote community service, instill responsibility, character and self-discipline through character education and provide instruction in air and space fundamentals.

AFJROTC is located in 746 high schools across the United States and at selected schools in Europe, the Pacific and Puerto Rico. The AFJROTC program at Sandy Creek is the only Junior ROTC program in Fayette County.

This is the fourth year for AFJROTC at Sandy Creek High and the third consecutive year that the program has been selected for the Distinguished Unit Award. Students in Fayette County interested in the program can contact the AFJROTC department at Sandy Creek High (770-969-2840, Ext 278).
