Brown filled slots with own cronies

I’ve written earlier about the performance (of lack of performance) of the Steve Brown Administration on roads/transportation along the Ga. Highway 74 corridor from south to north. I think that the performance on other roads is similar in other areas of the city. How much money was spent to “patch up” Peachtree Parkway South and dribble tar on the cracks making the road look terrible?

How has he done in other areas? You decide.

On annexation, before he was mayor he made a lot of noise about opposing a “West Village” annexation. After he was mayor, he proposed a “new” annexation of the “West Village,” with greater density and a smaller contribution from the developer, but he failed to accomplish it.

Take your choice. If you’re anti-annexation, he’s for it. If you’re pro-annexation, he couldn’t achieve it.

Let’s see, how about the Development Authority and the Tennis Center and amphitheater? Well, before he became mayor, according to him, these were filled with “cronies and insiders.” After he was mayor, he did change that. Instead of “cronies and insiders” of the mayor and council, we had the mayor and council directly running things. And, it appears, not very well at that.

What about “Big Boxes”? The mayor was against those. The previous administration, in 10 years, put in two of what Steve calls “Big Boxes,” Wal-Mart and Home Depot. In only four years, Steve’s administration, has put in two more “Big Boxes,” Target and the new (huge!) Best Buy going in by Home Depot.

Okay, maybe he’s been more successful at something else? City spending and taxes are up. If you like that, I guess you’d have to say he’s been successful there.

What else? I don’t think any city services are what they used to be. There’s been no growth in the industrial sector.

He doesn’t work together or cooperate with Fayette County or Coweta County or any neighboring towns. He doesn’t get along with the local Chamber of Commerce or ANY development authority. He doesn’t get along with the state government or the DOT.

So, on behalf of the citizens of Peachtree City, he is not capable of accomplishing anything with them.

The only one I know of, in the immediate area, who supports him is the head of the South Fulton Chamber of Commerce, who took it upon himself to interject himself into an election in our city.

He’s not running against anyone else, including me or previous administrations or mayors. He’s running, or should run, against his own dismal sorrowful record of failure and do-nothing, negativity and attempting to erect his own facade.

The city is not dead yet. We still can get past his four years and move on into a better future.
