Palmetto police are searching for an armed robbery suspect who held up a motorist May 19 at the U.S. Highway 29 Chevron station.

The robbery occurred at approximately 11:55 p.m., said Palmetto Detective John Cooper. A customer had completed a purchase and had walked across the parking lot to his wrecker near Hwy. 29, Cooper said.

It was at that point that he was approached by a man asking for a cigarette. The man quickly pulled out what appeared to be a 9mm handgun and demanded the driver’s money and cell phone, said Cooper.

The wrecker driver complied and the robber fled on foot toward the rear of the service station. Cooper said the victim suffered no injury in the incident.

The perpetrator is described as a black male in his early to mid-20s, approximately 6-feet in height and weighing approximately 180 pounds. Cooper said the man was wearing a white shirt and blue jeans and a brownish-red jacket. He was said to be wearing a red ball cap and a white towel around his head.

The investigation into the armed robbery is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. John Cooper at Palmetto Police at 770-463-9068.
