Thursday Thunder is a 10-week summer racing series at Atlanta Motor Speedway, starting on June 1 and running through August 3. But it’s about so much more than racing.
Thursday Thunder has been called the city’s most affordable family activity by many fans. With tickets just $5 for adults (kids 6-12 are $1, 5 and under are free), a family of four can attend for less than a fast-food meal. And speaking of food, all concession prices are greatly reduced for the summer at reasonable prices.
In addition, fans are treated to a bevy of games, prizes, giveaways, raffles and fun. Each week AMS will give away tickets to the Oct. 27-29 Bass Pro Shops 500 weekend, certificates for free Richard Petty Driving Experience Ride-alongs as well as other great prizes!
There will also be weekly autograph sessions with the drivers, an activity area on the concourse, special Monkey Wrench appearances and many other games and activities for children.
Some of this season’s highlights include fireworks, faster pastor races and the long-awaited return of the kids’ candy and coin scramble.
That’s to say nothing of the on-track excitement. More than 100 race cars are expected to jam the pit area each Thursday night as drivers from across the Southeast battle around the paved quarter-mile Atlanta Motor Speedway frontstretch oval, the Thunder Ring.

At Thursday Thunder, you may be watching the next NASCAR superstar as he begins his racing career.Drivers such as Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Kurt and Kyle Busch got their starts in racing behind the wheel of a Legends car.Peachtree City’s own Reed Sorenson, who currently races on the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup and NASCAR Busch Series, got his start in racing at AMS.In five Thursday Thunder seasons here, Sorenson logged 24 victories.

Tickets for Thursday Thunder are available at Gate 13 (frontstretch Champions Grandstand) on event nights. Parking is free. Spectator gates open at 6 p.m. with preliminary action beginning immediately. Feature racing begins at 7 p.m. and concludes by 10:30 p.m.
