South PTC path bridge work set for Dec.

City officials hope to start construction of the approach paths to the new cart path bridge over Flat Creek this December.

The bridge has already been built, but the project has been on hold because the bridge had to be built much higher than originally planned due to federal guidelines requiring it to withstand a flooding of the creek. Also, the approach paths needed to be designed to have a minimal impact on the creek.

The bridge will connect the southern area of the city to the industrial park and in the future residents will be able to follow the path system all the way to the city’s soccer and baseball complex on Ga. Highway 74 south.

The bridge is located between Mattan Point in the Morallion Hills subdivision and the Gardner Park industrial subdivision off Hwy. 74 south.

Survey work is due to begin on the project this month, according to City Engineer David Borkowski. Following that, boring equipment will be used for geotechnical testing to help finish the design.
