The South Metro Advisory Board of the Atlanta Red Cross has kicked off its annual Heroes fund-raising campaign.

Dozens of volunteers in the community have pledged to raise $1,000 each for the Red Cross. All proceeds will aid local residents in the southern crescent counties who suffer the loss of their homes due to fire, flood, tornado or other disaster.

Businesses, churches, civic organizations and schools are urged to take part in the campaign.

Fire departments in Fayette, Henry, Clayton and Butts counties depend on the Red Cross to provide emergency assistance to local families victimized by a disaster.

“Without the efforts of our local Red Cross, these people would be out on the street, their personal effects gone, looking for a place to stay.” said Riverdale Fire Chief Billy Hayes.

To participate in the campaign, call Ruben Brown at 404-290-2851 or e-mail rbrown@arcatl.org.
