Starr’s Mill High has been listed by Newsweek magazine as being one of the top 1,000 high schools in the nation.

Periodically the magazine ranks the nation’s high schools by taking the number of Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate tests all students take in a given school divided by the school’s number of graduating seniors.

Starr’s Mill falls on the list at number 868. It is the only high school in the county to make the list as well as the only school in the south metro Atlanta area. A total of 23 Georgia schools are included in the top 1,000 with Starr’s Mill at 17.

The latest list draws on 2004 data from about 11,000 public schools with AP programs and more than 400 that offer IB.

This is Starr’s Mill second consecutive time on Newsweek’s top 1,000. The previous list was published in 2003 using 2002 data.
