Law enforcement agencies across Georgia are conducting a crackdown on dangerous, aggressive and high-speed drivers.

The campaign is called “100 Days of Summer HEAT.” The acronym stands for “Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic.”

The campaign will also target those who drive while drunk or impaired by drugs, and those who fail to wear seat belts or secure children in safety seats, officials said. The event began this week and will stretch past the Labor Day holiday weekend, officials said.

“The message to Georgia’s high-risk drivers is clear,” said Bob Dallas, director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. “Safety belt, DUI and speed law violations will not be tolerated.”

The event is designed to hit bad drivers in their checkbooks, take away license points and raise their insurance rates, official said.

Speed is a factor in numerous fatal automobile crashes, officials said.
