Piedmont Fayette Hospital wouldn’t be a 100 Top Hospital® without its dedicated team of healthcare employees. In recognition of National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week, Piedmont Fayette spotlighted its nurses and healthcare workers for the outstanding care they provide to patients. Nurse of the Year Awards were announced and throughout the week, employees were treated to an ice cream social and special activities.

“We often get so busy that we sometimes don’t say ‘thank you’ enough to our employees,” said Darrell Cutts, president and CEO of Piedmont Fayette Hospital. “This week of celebration is our way of letting them know that we appreciate the top quality of care they give to our patients and the community all year long.”

Piedmont Fayette Hospital awarded three nurses with the Nurse of the Year award. Award recipients include Karen Troope, R.N., critical care, Janice Cole, R.N. and PFH Auxiliary member and Crystal Abbott, R.N., medical surgical unit. Nurses on staff involved in direct patient care and very active within the hospital were all eligible to be nominated for the honor.

"The nurses we are recognizing this year were chosen by their peers and nominated because they embodied the National Nurses Week theme ‘NURSES, Strength, Commitment, Compassion,’" said Lisa Hedenstrom, vice president of Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer at PFH.
Nurses are an integral part of the hospital team, offering hands-on patient care and assisting physicians in the operating room, among a host of other duties. Piedmont Fayette Hospital’s nurses also serve in various leadership positions.
