Relief for moms - chiropractic care for childrenTue, 05/23/2006 - 12:12pm

During May, Mother’s Day Month, I thought it would be appropriate to share information about how Moms get some relief when their children are given a safe, effective treatment to improve their children’s health. We treat subluxation, a misalignment of the spine, which irritates nerves and reduces transmission to vital systems in the body. One of my patients brought in her fourteen year-old daughter who had been suffering from neck pain, headaches and bedwetting. We found and removed the subluxation in her upper neck (at the base of the skull) using the very gentle Atlas Orthogonal Technique. Here is what she reported: “I was advised by the medical doctor to ‘take a couple of Tylenol or Advil and rest for the evening.’ The doctor also suggested various ways to alleviate or eliminate her constant bedwetting episodes. My 14 year-old has been afraid to sleep over at a friend’s house or to have friends over to our house for fear of wetting the bed. After one atlas/axis (upper neck) adjustment my daughter’s life and confidence have definitely changed. Her headache and stiff neck is completely gone and the 3-5 times per week of bedwetting has completely stopped.” What this Mom did not know is that research documents that chiropractic care has been shown to help reduce bed-wetting (J Manipulative Physiol Ther 1994; 17: 596-600). Another Mom, whose sixteen year old daughter had been suffering with headaches for years, reported being “heartened to see immediate results, her headaches went away”. She reports that she will continue to pursue this treatment to help her daughter to achieve optimum health. You might want to know that one of the prior traumas experienced by this young patient involved a flip on a trampoline gone wrong. This was years before the headaches began, and went undetected because she appeared to recover from the mishap. Children should have their spines checked, even if they appear to be okay after a fall or potentially traumatic event. I often see adult patients with problems later in life, who went unchecked after having accidents as children. by Dr. Marilyn L. Durden, Durden Chiropractic Clinic, Tyrone login to post comments |
