The dream matchup between Starr's Mill and Parkview in the Elite Eight was dashed yesterday when Parkview lost to Kell, but the Starr's Mill Panthers won't be in the state quarterfinals either. The Tift County Blue Devils scored three runs in the seventh inning to defeat Starr's Mill 6-4 on Thursday afternoon.

Tift County struck first with a run in the second inning but Starr's Mill answered in the bottom of the third inning when Andrew Robinson, pinch running for Jimmy Tanner, scored on two throwing errors and Joey Lewis hit a two run home run. The 3-1 lead didn't last long as Tift hit a two run home run of their own in the top of the fourth and the two teams would be deadlocked until the sixth inning when T.J. Stillwell hit a solo home run.

Tift wasn't done though. In the seventh inning, they loaded the bases on Lewis, pitching his second inning of relief, hit a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to take a 5-4 lead. They would add one more run on an RBI single against Will Mathis. Starr's Mill was unable to mount a comeback in the bottom of the inning and ended the season with a record of 28-2.
