College coaches to attend AFC Lightning player camp

AFC Lightning Soccer Club announces the college coaches that will attend and run sessions at its annual Player Development Camp to be held at McCurry Park North in Fayetteville: Grant Serafy, Head Women’s Coach Mercer University, Patrick Baker, Head Women’s Coach University of Georgia, Dominic Martelli, Head Women’s Coach Georgia State University, Mike Reubesch, Head Men’s Coach, Emory University, and Mark Berson, Head Men’s Coach, University of South Carolina.
The camp is for boys and girls and will run May 22-25. The costs and times are: Recreational and Academy players, 5:15-6:30 p.m., $55.00; Select players U13 and older, 6:15-7:45 p.m., $70.00.

The Lightning Player Development Camp provides intensive professional instruction in a fun atmosphere. Players of all ability levels are welcome and all will receive the same high quality of training.

Guest coaches from different colleges will demonstate and help out each night. AFC Lightning has a proud tradition of developing players. There have been 5 Lightning players drafted to Major League Soccer, one player (Clint Mathis) who played in the 2002 World Cup, and four players who played in the WUSA. Each year more than 20 Lightning players sign to play college soccer with some of the best colleges and universities in the country. For players planning on attending Lightning tryouts and evaluations for the 2006-07 season, this is an excellent way to meet the Lightning coaching staff.

Academy Evaluations (U9, 10, 11, & 12) will be held May 30, 31 and June 1 from 5:30-7:p.m. at McCurry Park. Tryouts for Girls (U13 and Up) will be held June 12 & 14: for Boys (U13 and up) will be held June 13 & 15. U13, 14 & 15 - 5:30-7:30 p.m. and U16, 17, & 18 - 7:30-9:30 p.m. each night.
